Loft Conversion - How To build one.

Most loft conversions follow the same basic elements being, structural improvements and alterations, installation of new natural lighting in the form of roof lights or dormer windows, installation of the new stair access route, installing new insulations and new internal linings, installing fire prevention measures and maintaining a good means of escape.

Additional elements that could be included within a ‘how to build a loft conversion’ article could also include new waste drainage (above and below ground), new domestic hot and cold water, new bathroom or shower room suite, new heating and even a new boiler.

Detailing and describing exactly what will be required for each element of how to build a loft conversion will normally be unique to each property and the homeowners requirements which will be drawn and scheduled by the loft conversion designer or architect.

Giving the house owner too much information here would probably be too generic to be of any real use and like most building methods there are lots of ways, materials and systems to achieve compliance for a loft conversion under the Building Regulations. It may also risk the homeowner attempting a DIY loft conversion themselves that is to be avoided in my opinion.
